In dad’s heels

THE adage “like father, like son” stands true for Maritino Vuativa and his son, Sekaia.
They are from Sawani Village in the district of Nadi in Bua.
They are part of the Sawani 7s team that will play in this weekend’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s in Suva.
Sekaia is the flyhalf, just like his father when the village team last played in the tournament in 1984.
The team returns after 34 years.
Sekaia, 24, was not born when his father played at the annual tourney.
They are related to Fijian 7s legend, Timoci Wainiqolo.
“I played for Ratu Navula Secondary School in the under-19 team that lost in the 2015 Deans Trophy semi-finals,” Sekaia said.
“I have been a villager for some time and have re-looked at my rugby career. I hope to get a contract to help my dad and mum.”
He had played for the Wardens and Namosi rugby teams.
“I have been training for the past months and this is my first time to play in the Marist 7s tournament. I hope the team will deliver some good games,” he said.
