OPPOSITION Leader Ro Teimumu Kepa says she is not desperate for the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leadership.

Ro Teimumu said she was happy in her office as the Leader of Opposition up until the swearing-in of the Prime Minister after the 2018 General Election.

She made the comment after claims made by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama that she was desperate for SODELPA leadership.

“I think she is in a move to remove Rabuka so that she can come back as Leader of Opposition,” Mr Bainimarama claimed on Monday.

Ro Teimumu said as far as SODELPA leadership was concerned, she would let the members decide.

“As far as SODELPA leadership, I am very happy where I am in my office as the Leader of the Opposition and I am the parliamentary leader up until the swearing-in of the Prime Minister as contained in the 2013 Constitution.

“As far as SODELPA leadership, we let the people decide, the members. I am not desperate for any position.”

She said the party already had a leader and president democratically elected under the party’s constitution.

Ro Teimumu said all she wanted was for Fiji to have the best government it could have.

“What I would like is for the country to have the best government and whoever (party) does not form government, forms Opposition.”
