Illicit materials go up in flames

PORT MORESBY, 03 JULY 2018 (POST COURIER) – The Office of Censorship in Papua New Guinea destroyed more than 1300 illicit materials (pornographic materials, multiple DVDs and sex enhancement products) and 9.5kg of marijuana in a bonfire outside Port Moresby last Friday.

The illicit materials including pornographic magazines, multiple DVDs and sex products were confiscated by the enforcement and compliance division of the Office of Censorship in their daily operations.

The marijuana destroyed was confiscated by the National Drug and Vice Squad and some were taken from the exhibits of the Boroko Magisterial Services.

The destruction was carried out in partnership with the National Drug and Vice Squad and members of the Boroko Magisterial Services

Acting manager enforcement and compliance Poveta Posa acknowledged the assistance of the police officers and the team from censorship, as this is one of the key priority areas for the enforcement and compliance division.

Posa said she was satisfied with the continued support from the police and PNG Customs and hoped to continue this collaboration with other partners in the coming years.

Sergeant Thomas Moiyang from NDVS and Senior Magistrate for Boroko District Court Ms Rosemary Koimo, were part of the programme to witness the destruction of the materials.
