Update: 1:15PM PUBLIC health is an extremely important component of humanitarian action.
The Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Elhadj As Sy said this at an open discussion forum at the new ICT Lecture Theatre at USP Laucala Campus on Monday night with the main focus on “Inspiring Voluntary Humanitarian Action in Pacific Youth”.
Mr As Sy Are was responding to a question from the audience if there were existing initiatives with Red Cross that deals with youths specifically on healthy lifestyle.
“Health would always be an area of intervention health is becoming an emergency of its own,” Mr As Sy said.
He said they not only work with volunteers but with professional staff particularly in areas thats extremely hard to manage.
“The hard core of the health work would be done by the professional workers.”
Meanwhile there are 60,000 professional staff in the IRFC apart from the volunteers.
