THE Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s team maintained its spot in the top 8 places after the completion of this weekend’s HSBC Womens Rugby Sevens Series Canada 7s tournament.

Fiji scared Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Canada 7s champions New Zealand 12-7 in its last pool game and later  bowed out to Australia 21-5 in the main quarter-final.

The Iliesa Tanivula-coached side also lost to Ireland in the fifth spot play-offs before England avenged its pool game losses 29-24 for the seventh and eight places play-offs.

Tanivula said the aim was to maintain its spot in the top 8 spots in which the team had achieved despite playing with five new players.

New Zealand thumped Australia 46-0 to win the Canada 7s.
