THE “beast” Semi Kunatani is expected to start from the bench when Fiji plays Samoa in the next hour at the HSBC Paris 7s.
Kunatani joined the team earlier this week following the departure of HSBC Londons 7s player of the final, Semi Radradra and Josua Tuisova.
This is the third year that Fiji has been in the same pool as Samoa.
In 2016, the two sides were in the same pool where Fiji thrashed Samoa 42-5. However, they played again in the final and Fiji could have won the series if it had defeated Samoa. But the side lost 26-29 to Samoa after leading 26-7 at half time. Fiji went on to London 7s the week after and had to qualify for the quarterfinals to win the World Series, which it did.
Last year, Samoa pipped Fiji 19-17 during pool play. Fiji qualified for the quarterfinal as the second placed team in their pool but lost 24-0 to Scotland. Fiji also lost 24-14 to USA in the 5th place semi final.
*Fiji’s starting lineup against Samoa are: Paula Dranisinikula, Kalioni Nasoko, Josua Vakurinabuli, Jerry Tuwai, Vatemo Ravouvou, Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Eroni Sau. The substitutes are Semi Kunatani, Jasa Veremalua, Waisea Nacuqu, Alosio Naduva and Aminoni Nasilasila.
