Hope for support

BUSINESS owners in Nadi are hoping that commercial concessions offered to small business owners will be improved by the newly-elected government.

The Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry said it believed there would be continued support for commercial properties by the new government.

NCCI secretary Shalendra Prasad said collaboration with the government which had been in power over the past eight years was vital.

“We have been working with the past government over the last eight years and we look forward to continue working with them,” he said.

“One of the issues that we have always had is the taxation policies on small businesses and we hope it’s going to be something that they will look into.

“Stamp duty on commercial properties remains to be an issue and we hope that these rates could be reviewed.”

Mr Prasad added the chamber was already in the process of collating data for its national budget submissions.
