FIJI has one of the highest rates of injuries from domestic violence.

This was revealed by Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre coordinator, Shamima Ali while speaking at the Fiji College of General Practitioners conference at the Warwick Fiji Resort in Sigatoka earlier today.

“Fiji’s rate of domestic violence is one of the highest in the world,” she said.

Ms Ali said domestic violence was not just a slap.

Many women living with violence, she said, were subjected to torture in their own homes, including repeated attacks of physical and sexual abuse.

“Rape within marriage is also an issue, humiliating, emotional abuse and high levels of coercive controls by their husbands or partners,” she said.

The conference concluded earlier this afternoon.
