PRESIDENT Ratu Epeli Nailatikau expects the national men’s and women’s team to be at their top performance at the Oceania 7s and upcoming HSBC Sevens World Series Gold Coast tournament.
Yesterday, during the two teams’ i-tatau presentation, Ratu Epeli reminded the players of the high expectations.
“Everyone is aware of the training you undergo here,” he said.
“We hear reports of your training on papers and television which are good. So go now there and show us what you have been prepared for.”
He reminded the players, the competition at international level had increased immensely during the past few seasons.
However, Ratu Epeli believes Fiji has one of the best international sevens coaches in Ben Ryan. Ratu Epeli said the people of Fiji expected nothing than a win. Fiji failed to defend its Gold Coast title last season and settled for the plate.
“You have the best coaches that we can provide and I have no doubt that you’re going to do well in Australia.
“The people will expect no less and you yourself should expect no less. Playing to the best of your ability is not good enough, you should play one step higher with mental and physical toughness.”
The Vodafone Fiji 7s team led by veteran Nasoni Roko and the Telecom Fijiana side will compete at the Federation of Oceania Rugby Unions (FORU) tournament in Noosa this weekend.
