High Court hears rape case

A MAN charged with the alleged rape of a 14-year old girl appeared before High Court judge Justice Thusara Rajansinghe in Suva today.

The 33-year old man is charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault.

The alleged offence took place earlier this month in Lami, just minutes out of the capital city.

State lawyer Meli Vosawale informed the court the accused was not related to the victim, and that the alleged act took place in a settlement.

Mr Vosawale also sought time to file information and disclosures.

The case has been adjourned to October 25, 2018.
