Heavy rain alert cancelled

Update: 11:03AM BETTER weather is expected in those parts of the country which experienced heavy rains recently, the National Weather Office said this hour.

In its special weather bulletin number five issued at 10.30am today, the Fiji Meteorological Service cancelled a heavy rain alert which had been in force for the north eastern parts of Fiji.

The alert had been applicable for Vanua Levu, eastern parts of Viti Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and the Lomaiviti Groups.

The forecast now for the country is for cloudy periods with some showers expected over the eastern parts and interior of the larger islands.

The weather service warns there may be afternoon or evening thunderstorms and heavy falls.

“Elsewhere, fine apart from afternoon or evening thunderstorms and heavy falls,” the weather bulletin said.

“This will be the last special weather bulletin on heavy rain unless the situation changes.”
