SUGAR Cane Growers Council CEO Sundresh Chetty says work being done by Australian agriculture expert Brendan Davies and his company FarmWorld-Fiji in the sugarcane sector is making a big impact on the development of idle land.

“This is a great example of how things can work well for the industry when the private sector, industry stakeholders and Government work together,” Mr Chetty said.

“This has been a combined industry effort between FarmWorld-Fiji, SCGC, Sugar Cane Growers Fund and Government.

“The way I see it, this cooperative system is the best for long-term sustainability and this is definitely the way to go.”

Mr Chetty said the partnership’s success was evident with the number of farmers who had signed up and land that had been prepared for cultivation and planting.

“Several farms which have not been producing have come on board and FarmWorld is working to establish itself from Lautoka to Rakiraki.

“I urge growers who have land available to come on board and register their interest,” Mr Chetty said.

“The FarmWorld-Fiji system is a great example of how a fully mechanised farm can work.”
