FIJI was chosen as the first country in the world to observe the Earth Hour initiative on Saturday night.

The Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) in Suva joined the worldwide initiative and dimmed non-essential lights for one hour from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday.

GPH general manager Peter Gee, said the hotel was very proud to partner with World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to actively support and raise national awareness of Earth Hour in the country.

“As a small nation, we are more conscious of the need to preserve our precious environment and this WWF initiative, now in its eleventh year, helps highlight the need to take tangible actions to protect our biodiversity, preserve our resources and of course to tackle the issue of climate change,” Mr Gee said.
