A CONCRETE government quarters in Waya Street, Lautoka was destroyed in a fire on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro yesterday confirmed the incident and said the three bedroom quarters was vacant at the time of the incident.

“The government quarters was vacant for quite some time,” she said.

Ms Naisoro said police was still waiting for the National Fire Authority to ascertain the cause of fire.

Investigations are continuing.

Meanwhile, drivers have been urged to take all the necessary precautions while out on Fiji roads during this adverse weather condition.

The call comes after a woman died following an alleged fatal accident in Serua on Thursday afternoon.

Ms Naisoro confirmed the accident occurred at Nabukelevu Road in Serua.

“The 71-year-old victim was a passenger in a car driven by a 46-year-old man and while returning from Sigatoka it is alleged the vehicle veered off the road resulting in the accident,” Ms Naisoro said.

She said two other victims, a man and a woman were still admitted in stable condition at the Navua Hospital while the driver was in police custody as investigations continued.

The road death toll currently stands at 11 compared to 14 for the same period last year.
