THE Fijian Government has invested around $7.1million into the development of the Nabouwalu New Town Project in Bua on Vanua Levu.

This was highlighted by Minister for Local Goverment Parveen Kumar while officiating at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in Suva today with Hussain’s Hire Plant for the Nabouwalu Town Centre.

Mr Kumar said the development of the town marked the first time that a plan and design was finalised before a town was constructed in the country.

“The historic occasion here is us planning and designing first before the centre becomes a town. We will soon see Nabouwalu as a municipality, having its own town facilities prepared for its people, including a well-serviced centre for trade that offers a lot of opportunities,” he said.

The contract has been awarded to Taiyub Hussein of Hussain’s Hire Plant to carry out the development and the works are expected to be finished within the next 12 months.
