FOR the past years dairy farmers had to live a life with low milk prices since the milk purchase agreement has not been finalised.
The milk purchase agreement, which is an agreement signed between dairy farmers and Fiji Dairy Ltd, decides on the actual raw milk price farmers should be given when supplying their raw milk.
Fiji Co-operative Dairy Company Ltd CEO Sachida Nand said farmers had no idea how the pricing of raw milk was set.
He said the current price of raw milk was determined by Fiji Dairy Limited, unfortunately not finalised yet.
“Without the agreement the farmers have had to live with low milk prices, and an environment that discourages investment,” Mr Nand said.
He said through the kind assistance of the government, NZAid and Fiji Crop and Livestock Council were able to get the vital agreement completed.
