Golfer in top form

NADI-based golfer Abid Hussein was in top form winning the two-day TPR Wahehouse Eastern Championship which ended at the Fiji Golf Club course in Vatuwaqa yesterday.

He recorded a gross score of 215 over 54 holes defeating Olaf Allen and Mohammed Rizwan.

Allen finished second with a score of 223 with Rizwan claiming the third spot on 228.

Gaw Jee stamped her mark in the women’s division scooping the top award with a score of 163 over 36 holes.

Jee was given a good run for her money by Merelita McCarthy who finished second with a score of 164.

Tournament official Ilaisa Labaibure said competition attracted top golfers from around country and commended the Hussein and Jee for their achievements.

“The competition was tough as golfers recorded good scores despite the wet weather,” he said.

“The battle for the top three was intense Hussein judged his game perfectly to secure the top award.

“The women competition was a seesaw battle between Jee and Merelita.”

More than 100 golfers took part for the event.
