GC2018: Mumps in Kiwi rugby camp
4 April, 2018, 5:54 pm
Update: 5:54PM THREE members of the New Zealand women’s sevens rugby team who are now at the Gold Coast for the Commonwealth Games are reported to have mumps.
Commonwealth Games Federation CEO David Grevemberg said the players would remain in camp in the Sunshine Coast until Sunday.
“There have been no other additional reports,” he said.
“I give credit to team New Zealand, the way that they handled the mumps situation and dealt with the athletes and agreed that the athletes will stay there until the symptoms have gone.”
He said the athletes will rest until the mandatory five days of recovery is up.
The women’s rugby 7’s competition begins on April 13. New Zealand is pooled with Canada, Kenya and Zambia while Fiji is pooled with Wales, Uganda and Sri Lanka.
