Update: 2:43PM FIJI 7s is in contention for the 2018 Commonwealth Games gold medal after narrowly defeating South Africa 24-19 in the men’s rugby 7s semi-finals.

Amenoni Nasilasila scored the match winner for Fiji 7s team in the extra time of the second semifinal of the Games at Robina Stadium in Brisbane in the last hour. 

Fiji started the match on high with two first-half tries from Erofirst-half captain Jerry Tuwai as the side led 12-0 at halftime. 

South Africa came strong in the second half and they scored two quick tries to Rosko Specman while Sevuloni Mocenacagi scored for Fiji. 

South Africa levelled the scores 19-all with a try from Dylan Sage, converted by Cecil Afrika. 

“It was a hard match, but the players managed to pull a win in the extra time,” Fiji coach Gareth Baber said. 

Fiji will meet arch-rivals New Zealand at 5.01pm (Fiji Time).
