Gau Secondary School reigned supreme during the Fiji Secondary Schools Athletics Association Maritime Zone at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on Monday.
Gau Secondary took home the overall title for the Maritime Zone bagging 15 gold medals, six silver medals and one bronze in the track and field events.
Yasawa North Secondary School took out the boys division with seven gold medals, six silver and eight bronze medals while Cicia High School won the girls division with seven gold medals, three silver and no bronze.
Cicia High School junior girls 100m and 200m sprinter Ana Vudolo Sorovakatini said the team had only a few weeks to prepare for the zone but still managed to win the girls’ division.
“It was through God that we were able to achieve this and we are grateful towards the tremendous support we had from family and the teachers,” she said.
Ana who won the junior girls 100m and 200m finals said she had put in a lot of effort in training and she was grateful for winning the two events.
“It was hard competing with the other Maritime Zone school athletes and I know it would be even tougher at the Coke Games but I will put all my trust in God,” she said.
“Despite what we go through every day back home we still managed to come and take part.
“We want to dedicate this achievement to our families back home and especially to our fellow athletes who couldn’t make it to Suva.”
