FOLLOWING the election of Fiji’s Parliament, the Nadi Chamber of Commerce and Industry hopes more funds will be allocated for tourism marketing.
President Dr Ram Raju noted this among its hopes from government, adding airline routes could also be reviewed to entice more travellers from Asia.
“Direct flight to Tokyo, mainland China and other Asian cities could be seriously explored, even to India and beyond,” he said.
He added backpacker accommodation should be prioritised as eco-tourism was another potential attraction for many more tourists.
“Some backpacker resorts are situated in outlying and rural areas and roads to these areas should be tarsealed and all infrastructure facilities provided and rebates offered.”
Referring to the private sector as the main engine of growth, he said the chamber would continue working with government.
