Update: 2:43PM STUDENTS of Labasa Special School and Fiji National Council of Disabled Persons gathered at the school this morning to celebrate the World Down Syndrome Day.
Children and adults alike took part in sports and other fun activities to mark the day.
Speaking at the celebrations this morning chief guest and Disability Welfare Officer North Niumai Marama said the theme “What I Bring to Work” is a call to action for the recognition of the rights of people who live with Down Syndrome with regards to employment.
“It must be recognised by all that persons with Down Syndrome have the same basic right as other members of the community,” she said.
“As such they need to be treated with the same respect and dignity as any other person in the workplace and any sphere of public life.”
