THE Republic of the Fiji Military Forces Training Group 7s team has a mission in the 2018 Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament this weekend.
The team, called the Army FTG is back after 11 years.
And it wants to make an impact in the tourney to announce its return.
Coach Watisoni Ratulevu said their mission was to develop a winning combination.
“With all due respect to the big teams, our goal is to develop a team to participate well in the Marist 7s, bearing in mind that all teams pose a threat,” Ratulevu said.
“Our focus is trying to improve on our defence, improve our defensive lines, use set pieces, line-out moves and ruck breakdowns well.
“Regaining possession during attack is another area where our players will contest.
“It is a key principle where various forms of contests should be monitored and taken heed by our players.”
Ratulevu said their preparation had been hindered by the unavailability of a proper training ground.
“Our rugby ground is under construction, so we are making use of whatever is available. Overall, we have a good set of players.
“Looking at the level of fitness, work rates and potential we have, I can say we have a chance to make it to the top eight.
“We are returning after 11 years and we hope to get our players exposed.”
Army FTG is pooled with Suva Stallions and Congo Waimanu.
The tournament starts on Friday.
