“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” — Pele
With utmost pride and pleasure, I welcome all guests, players, officials and Fiji FA board members to the 2017 Vodafone/Fiji Football Association awards night.
Over the years this prestigious awards has set a platform for the national body to honour the achievements of our players and officials, something which we would like to see continue.
This year, we are proud to announce that Vodafone has joined hands with Fiji FA as the major sponsor of this event for the first time.
Vodafone has been a household name in football arena for about a decade and the backbone of Fiji FA after taking over the sole sponsorship in 2013.
Our future is indeed exciting!
The Fiji FA Awards night has become an important part of our calendar and we hope to do the same for many more years to come.
Sponsors of all individual awards determine their commitment to assist in the further promotion and development of football in Fiji.
The awards night is to acknowledge the hard work and commitment by both players and those behind the scenes.
This is an opportunity to recognise footballers and administrators who have contributed to the development of football in Fiji.
This year, we have two more new categories which should see two new winners walk away with awards. These are goal of the year and the volunteer of the year awards.
After 17 years, Fiji FA will also bestow the two Hall of Fame Inductees for meritorious contribution and meritorious performance. This will add to the eight inductees we already have.
As practised previously, we once again requested the districts to nominate players and officials who they thought deserved to be honored.
It is an opportunity for football managers to give recognition to the footballers who have given their best throughout the season and such awards will have a lasting effect and impact on the careers of footballers. It takes a lot of sacrifice and commitment to be part of a football season and the hardworking persons should be honored.
I would like to offer special word of thanks to all our sponsors, particularly Vodafone Fiji, for the support towards our annual awards night.
This year, like every other year, we have exciting prizes for the winners and I would also like to thank some of our other sponsors that have come on board to support and make this event a much bigger and a colourful one.
Finally, I would like to thank all of those unsung heroes of the clubs around the country who render their services and time free of charge, all for the love and development of football.
With these words, I would like to urge the nominees and other players who have not been nominated to continue with the hard work they have been putting in to develop football in Fiji and taking the sport to another level.
Thank you, vinaka vakalevu and dhanyevaad.
