CANBERRA, (AAP) – A free trade agreement between Australia and Pacific Island countries would enhance economic progress in the region, Trade Minister Steve Ciobo says.
Ciobo said the agreement was “tailored to help Pacific island countries address their specific development challenges and better participate in global trade,” as he introduced it to parliament on Thursday.
Australia signed the initial agreement with the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Nauru, New Zealand, Niue, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu last year.
