THE Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF) launched its Global Employers Climate Action Forum at My Suva Park today.

FCEF chief executive officer Nesbitt Hazelman said the launch of the forum was in support of Fiji’s Presidency of COP23.

“Today the planting of the trees signifies our attempt to take into account the carbon emission that will be used up during the time our international delegates fly down to Fiji,” Mr Hazelman said.

“We expect that our international delegates will be flying from all over the world, so for that, we are sort of trying to mitigate and plant trees even though there are a few members today.”

He said this was also one way of raising awareness to assure that Fiji had a sustainable environment.

“We need to assure that we have a sustainable environment, we need to understand for the future generation that we have an obligation to play and businesses especially, where businesses are also singled out as polluters,” he said.

The Global Employers Climate Action Forum will take place on July 25 at the Holiday Inn in Suva.
