AN awareness seminar for the Fiji Institute of Quantity Surveyors recently focused on the importance of calculating the costs before commencement of any types of project, whether they be domestic, commercial, industrial, local, national or international in nature and the significant roles that quantity surveyors, also known as costing engineers, cost consultants, and project managers play.
A statement from the FIQS stated the seminar was held at the Capricorn International Hotel in Nadi funded by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
Vice-president of the organisation, Ron Rova’s message to members was “cost it … before it costs you”.
“Many projects had fallen apart, that after investigations, the chief reason was due to their costing and the methods adopted in their costing process was questionable,” said Mr Rova.
He said the purpose of the seminar was to make aware the presence and important roles that quantity surveyors played and their contributions toward the betterment of the society, by ensuring that proper and correct costing measures were put in place.
The seminar was well attended by members of the banking, financial institutes, engineering, architectural, building, manufacturing, production, services fraternities and Government representatives.
The awareness seminar moves to Suva towards the end of November.
