Focus on data management systems

THERE is a need to further improve social protection and data management systems across the Pacific.

This was one of the main takeaways from the inaugural Pacific Shock Responsive Social Protection Conference for the region, which drew to a close this week.

Director of the Social Welfare Department Rupeni Fatiaki said the inaugural conference was extremely beneficial to Fiji.

“Yes, having this conference and exchanging ideas with Pacific Island country members, getting technical expertise from organisations like World Food Program is an additional bonus for us,” he said.

“We talked about the challenges we face. Data management is one of those so these are some of the areas that we are already working on with the help of other consultants and companies and these are some of the areas we need to continue to work on.”

The group had organised a field trip to visit areas impacted by Severe Tropical Cyclone Winston.
