FNRL to select Fiji Residents team after trials

THE Fiji National Rugby League will hold the final trials for the Fiji Residents team on Tuesday.

FNRL development officer Joe Rabele said they had selected 25 players each from East and West who would be fighting for a spot in the final team.

The Fiji Residents will play the visiting Australian Aborigines team on October 25.

“We had the trials on Thursday and Friday and managed to select 25 players from East and West,” Rabele said.

“We don’t have any Battle of Bati this year but we want to start building the team for the next World Cup from now.”

The Fiji Residents team will also compete in the upcoming Murri Games to be held in Australia.

Meanwhile Rabele confirmed a team of development officers would be at the Nines tournament in Sigatoka on October 10 to scout for players for the Fiji Residents team.

The Nines tournament is part of the “Footy for Fiji” tour organised by rugby league legends Brad Fittler and Andrew Johns.
