THE Ministry of Fisheries will seize the vessels, vehicles and fishing gears of people caught repeating the offence of fishing, selling or exporting kawakawa and donu.

This was highlighted by the Director of Fisheries, Aisake Batibasaga.

Mr Batibasaga added, however, that there had been a positive response from members of the public who were complying with the seasonal ban.

“The ministry has been very pleased with the overall level of support from the communities and businesses of Fiji, both for the ban, and in terms of compliance,” he said.

“This is not something that the ministry can achieve alone, and the support from the communities of Fiji, along with the other local and central government agencies that we are working closely with, has been excellent.”

He urged vendors and members of the public to comply with the ban till October 1 later this year.

“Support the seasonal ban to ensure that we do all we can, to rebuild stocks of these important fish for the people and businesses of Fiji.”
