THE FIRST ever national conference on prawn cultivation took place today, a highlight of the programme being the testing of a new specie being considered as an export commodity for Fiji.

Opened by the Minister for Fisheries, Semi Koroilavesau, the Fiji Conference on the Cultivation of Penaeid Prawns began at 10am  at the Galoa Aquaculture Station in Serua, a government alert said.

The Penaeidae is a family of prawns  which are commonly used in commercial fishery, and farming.
