Final results to be announced from 2pm

Update: 1:37PM THE final results of the 2014 general election will be announced in the next half hour.

Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem said by 2pm, a big chunk of the votes from the 2025 polling stations would have been completed.

He also clarified that contrary to claims, counting at the National Counting Centre has never stopped.

He said he had increased the counting teams from 20 to 60 to speed up the counting of votes cast at the 547 pre-poll stations.

A total of 66,048 were registered for pre-poll but the Elections Office said about 77 per cent or more than 49,000 had actually cast their votes.

Both Mr Saneem and Chen Bunn Young, the Electoral Commission chairman, also welcomed the endorsement by international observers that the voting process was free and fair.
