Fijians to receive free medical services from ‘Ark Peace’

THE Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy Hospital ship, Ark Peace will arrive at the Suva Port on August 2 and will be in the country till August 9.

Returning to Fiji for the second time after four years, the ship with its 120 medical professionals will be offering free medical services to thousands around the country.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji, Qian Bo said the team were aiming to assist 600 people each day.

“We have calculated an average that the ship is able to treat 600 people and they are ready to send our small medical teams to go to the villages, to the local hospitals to see the doctors,” he said.

“At the same time we have the medical equipment team, those engineers will be able to go to the local hospitals, help to repair and assist the maintenance of the medical equipment.”

Mr Qian said the ship was coming on a mission called the ‘Mission Harmony 2018’ where they would be covering a few Pacific Island nations.

“The last Port is Port Vila, Vanuatu before the ship actually arrives to Fiji and the next Port is Tonga,” he said.
