FIJI Airways Fijiana 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula has called on Fijians and members of the public to be lenient in making comments about his national side on social media. Tanivula said negative and unwarranted comments dished out on social media against the team’s performances affected the players while on tour. He called on supporters to be mindful of what they post on Facebook against the team, especially when it loses.

“I always tell the girls to ignore all the nasty comments that are posted on social media and focus on what is ahead of them,” he said from Canada yesterday.

The team is preparing for this weekend’s Langford 7s.

Tanivula is trying his best to fire up his team this weekend. ”

The players are adapting to the weather because it is very cold with the temperature of 14 degrees,” he said.

“They will do the best and play well this weekend. We just want to improve on our performance and keep working hard. The world cup is around the corner and I have been monitoring their performance. “Sevens training is intense. You got to deal with it, and mental toughness is what I always remind the girls of.”

Fiji is ranked 10th in the World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series.

The team is pooled against New Zealand, England and Brazil. France will face Russia, USA and Japan in Pool B. Pool C has series leader Australia, Spain, Ireland and host nation and 2017 runners-up Canada. Russia and USA will kick off the tournament this weekend.
