THE Fiji Airways Fijiana 15s rugby team will compete once again as a team after a lapse of twelve months. The Alifereti Doviverata-coached side last played as a team in 2016 and are back to prepare for their matches against the Brumbies and Newcastle in Australia.

Coach Doviverata said majority of the girls are from the 2016 squad that participated in the Women’s World Cup qualifying rounds against Hong Kong and Japan.

“We haven’t played as a team for one year because there hasn’t been any competition since until now,” Doviverata said.

“Our last game was the Asian qualifying matches where we were unsuccessful, but I know the girls have grown to understand rugby in a different way as we prepare against the two teams from Australia. “I have the same group of girls from 2016 and I’ve included ten new ones to be part of the squad.”

Doviverata said he would try and bring out the best within the team before the next Women’s World Cup qualifier.

“The next qualifying round is in 2020 and I know I have enough time to train the best for the next Women’s World Cup and also by next year the women’s local competition will transform to a 15s Skipper Cup so my area for scouting for the best around the country is enough,” Ro Dovi said.

Fiji will face Brumbies next Monday and play Newcastle on Saturday.
