FIJIAN youths will participate for the first time at the National Model United Nations Conference in Washington DC.
Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou said they were fortunate that a team from Fiji would be represented at the National Model United Nations Conference Washington DC.
While officiating at the induction and pinning of the first-ever collegiate-level Model United Nations team at FNU Natabua Campus in Lautoka, he said what pleased him more was the fact that the team entirely comprised women, who would compete in Washington DC, USA this November in an academic competition simulating real-life United Nations conference.
He said the journey would prepare participants to become future advocates and succeed in leadership roles.
“Although your task is to simulate international diplomats in this mock competition, the journey to doing so will equip you with the skills and tools to prepare for a future of active service to humanity. This is what we call ‘servant leadership’ and is, in my view, the highest form of both service to the people and leadership,” Mr Tuitubou said.
The team will be sponsored by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Fiji National University.
