PROVINCIAL treasurers have been reminded to have leadership traits.

Permanent secretary for the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs Naipote Katonitabua emphasised this while officiating at the workshop for 14 provincial treasurers that in Suva yesterday.

“I am emphasising your role as the watchdog because majority of the funding comes directly from members of the respective provinces through the soli-ni-yasana (provincial levy) and also through the government subventions funds of the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs,” Mr Katonitabua said.

“Another role that I would like to stress is to account all money received and money spent and whenever possible where it is invested.”

He also reminded the officers of their trend of bad practices within the service that had resulted in the termination of officers in the past, and some of which had had their cases referred to the Police.
