Fijian duo in NZ 7s squad

FIJIANS Lote Raikabula and Tomasi Cama Jr have been included in the New Zealand 7s squad for the Oceania (FORU) tournament in Noosa next weekend.

New Zealand 7s coach Sir Gordon Tietjens has named a 16-member squad to compete in Noosa before he trims his squad to 12 for the Gold Coast HSBC Sevens World Series tournament.

Raikabula who was dropped after failing to impress Titjens towards the last few tournaments of last season is fighting his way to rediscover his form while Cama has recovered from a calf injury and hopes to regain his spot in the final 12.

Tietjens has named five new players in Jordan Bunce, Matt Clutterbuck, Tony Ensor, Junior Tofa Vaa and Sam Vaka.

Bunce is the son of former All Black Frank Bunce and Clutterbuck has tonnes of experience at NPC level.

“I’m quite excited about this group – we’ve got some real talent in there and the question will be whether they take their chance and step up to the challenge,” Tietjens told stuff.co.nz.

The squad will assemble in Mt Maunganui tomorrow before leaving for Australia on Wednesday. Tietjens will then pick his 12-strong Gold Coast Sevens squad based on performances in Noosa.
