FIJI’S Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou opened the first National Volleyball Championship at the Nasinu Town Council volleyball court with a message of hope and endurance to the 18 participating teams from the West and Central divisions.

The ministry’s sponsorship of $22,000 to the Fiji Volleyball Federation to provide for the two days tournament.

Ministry media and communication coordinator Ashneel Singh said the main objective of the sponsorship was to help youths develop their skills in the sport and be a positive impact on the nation.

“The sponsorship is a pathway to building and empowering youths to a brighter future in the sport and we are trying to lift volleyball to a standard that is highly recognised and not to be seen as a minority sport,” Singh said.

A total prize of $6000 will be equally shared among the winners in the men and women’s categories.
