Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) held trials for the Southern Division U16 and U19 boys at Fiji FA Academy Ground in Vatuwaqa last week.
This process, which will be held in three divisions, is the buildup to name an extended Vodafone National U16 and U19 squad for Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) qualifiers later this year.
The Vodafone National U16 coach Yogendra Dutt said the first trials in Southern Division was very much impressed.
“First of all I would like to thank the South Division coaches for U16 and U19 because the talent which we saw and scouted for was good overall.
“The way these boys took part in the drill activities and games were quite impressive,” he said.
Dutt said the process being followed was to have Southern Division trials, Northern Division followed by the West trials.
“After that, the selected boys will come to Ba where will be having the final trials before the boys move into camp in preparation for Oceania playoffs.
“We are not putting a restriction on the number of players, however the talent that we scout for will be taken for the final trials.”
The OFC U19 Championship 2018 will be played from August 5-18 in Tahiti with Fiji being grouped with Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and New Caledonia.
The U16 playoffs will be played from September 9-22 as Fiji is in group B along with Tahiti, New Caledonia and a qualifying stage winner.
