CONTENT with their silver medal finish at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, Fiji 7s skipper Jerry Tuwai says the next mission is to win the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series Singapore 7s.

Dubbed as Mr Humble by 7s commentators, Tuwai was greeted along with his Team Fiji teammates by their loved ones at the Nausori Internationl Airport yesterday.

The Fiji 7s kingpin said a win at the Singapore 7s would put Fiji on top of the world 7s points table.

He said the boys gave their best at the Gold Coast 7s event, but it was not enough to give their fans the result they wanted.

Tuwai said the silver medal finish was not the end of the road, but a start of a new journey with the world 7s series and the Rugby Sevens World Cup titles up for grabs this year.

“We gave our all during the Hong Kong 7s, but we started late against New Zealand in the Commonwealth Games final,” he said.

“We wanted to win the gold but I believe it was not God’s plan to win gold and we are content with the silver medal finish.

“We are happy and satisfied with our performance now we will go back and start preparing for the Singapore 7s. A win in Singapore will see Fiji lead the table and we have put the Commonwealth Games experience behind us and focused on the world series.”

Tuwai said he had faith in his troops and they would recover well and bounce back strongly for next weekend’s Singapore 7s.

“This is not the end but a start of a new journey with the world 7s series in our sight after that we will then focus on the world cup,” he added.

The side will depart for Singapore on Sunday. South Africa leads the series with 126 points, Fiji is second on 123 while Commonwealth Games winner New Zealand is third with 107 points.
