Festival organisers looking forward to positive response

THE stage is set for the 2017 Vodafone Rakiraki Festival.

Organised by the Rakiraki Town Council, this year’s event will focus on the national COP23 agenda.

Council CEO Rakesh Chandra said they were expecting another positive turnout this year.

“Last year, we had a really good crowd that came out during the week and we are hoping to have the same kind of response this time around,” he said.

“We have all of the stalls sold out, with only three trade fare stands still vacant.”

Mr Chandra said five contestants had been picked by business houses for the event.

“We begin our public judging right after the official opening which will be held next Wednesday.”

He urged members of the public to support the festival.

“We are appealing to our residents to come out in numbers and support our festival.

“We have a number of entertainment groups and activities lined up for every member of the family to enjoy.

“This is an event that we wanted to organise for our people as we continue to recover from the damages of last year’s cyclone.

“We have organised an event that will provide some fun and entertainment for our people.”

The theme of this year’s carnival is “Connecting People to Nature”.
