MEMBERS of the Fiji Building Designers Association (FBDA) were yesterday reminded to offer services that were transparent, accountable and provide adequate protection to their clients.Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar, while officiating at the annual general meeting at Holiday InnSuva yesterday, said providing good service would cater for the members well in the long run.

“It is your duty of care for the industry that will in the long run protect you, your business and that the client you serve,” he said.

Mr Kumar said the AGM would also be an opportunity for designers to showcase their initiative in designing.

“It is also an opportunity for all the designers to show his or her initiative in design. This creates a platform to empowerment, enhancing capabilities and capacity of its members and having influence on style and esthetics on the buildings and designs.

Mr Kumar said with designs in mind it was only proper for the association to actually think design rather than just building.

“In the area of local government, building designs affects phase building, a town or a city.”

FBDA president Shailendra Mudliar said there was a need for local designers to upskill knowledge on current designs.

“In Fiji we have one standard design for the buildings, now we want to train this entire people to deliver better knowledge to give us creative designs something different from others,” he  said.

More than 50 members were part of the AGM.
