A MAJOR fault at the 900 millimetres high pressure pipeline connecting the Vaturu Dam and the Nagado Water Treatment Plant has been identified by the Water Authority of Fiji.
According to the authority, a landslide along Qaunakuka near Vaturu exposed the pipeline and a major supply disruption to Nadi and Lautoka would have occurred if the connection was damaged.
WAF regional manager west Romulusi Mataitoga said the authority was working closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to co-ordinate safe access into the Vaturu Dam and surrounding areas.
Rehabilitation work began yesterday at the Savalau Crossing as well as the Lidilidi Creek Crossing which led to Vaturu.
According to WAF, the two crossings were inundated with floodwaters on Wednesday which delayed access to the water source.
Meanwhile, a team of engineers have been deployed to carry out urgent remedial works to the exposed pipeline.
