DEFENDING champion Canada bounced back from their 2-nil deficit to hold Australia 2-all in the Fiji Muslim (FANCA) World Cup at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.
The side which lost to Fiji 1-0 in their opening game on Thursday night needs to win its remaining two games today to keep their title hopes alive.
Team director Mohammed Shameen said the side failed to find their rhythm in their first game and in the first spell against the Aussies.
He said the side was affected by the absence of some key players from the last world cup winning team.
Shameen said the players needed to lift their game if they wanted to retain the title.
Canada will face New Zealand and USA tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Fiji is the team to beat after winning two games.
Laced with district reps such as Abbu Zahid of Ba, Zibraz Sahib of Lautoka and Nadi’s William Valentine, the side only needs a win to secure a semi-final spot.
The competition continues tomorrow and the final to be played on Sunday.
