Family pay final respects to road victim

THE second victim of the Valelevu road accident was cremated today at the Vatuwaqa cemetery in Suva.

Close family and relatives of the late Chand gathered to bid their final farewells.

The 35-year-old was admitted in a critical condition at the CWM Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit following the accident last Sunday but later died on Friday.

The accident also claimed the life of her sister, Archana.

The Chand sisters were walking along Kanace Rd in Valelevu with Privasinal Chand when they were hit by a vehicle.

The driver was alleged to have been under the influence of alcohol while driving.

Ms Chand’s brother-in-law Divnesh Kumar said they would dearly miss the presence of the two sisters as they always loved his children.

“They would do anything my children ask of them. We will miss them so much,” he said.

Meanwhile, the driver of the vehicle was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and one count each of breach of zero alcohol limit and manslaughter and remanded in custody.
