Ex-provisional candidate further remanded; case referred to high court

A FORMER provisional candidate of the National Federation Party (NFP) who allegedly raped his sister-in-law has been further remanded in custody.

The 66-year-old medical practitioner appeared before Magistrate Sufia Hamza at the Nasinu Magistrates Court this morning.

Magistrate Hamza denied the bail for the accused citing the seriousness of the offence.

An interim domestic violence restraining order was also issued against the accused.

Magistrate Hamza also ordered for the accused to be taken to the CWM hospital to be medically examined.

He is charged with one count of rape.

The alleged incident took place on June 28 this year.

The case has been transferred to the High Court.

The man will reappear on July 13.
