THE Ministry of Environment says it is yet to determine a mysterious substance spilling into the Samabula River from a pipe in Nabua, Suva.

Environment and Waterways Minister Dr Mahendra Reddy confirmed his team visited the site and investigations had begun.

“We are looking into the issue. Our environment officer has actually gone down to see the place,” Dr Reddy said yesterday.

He said samples from the river had been taken to the University of the South Pacific laboratory for tests.

“The samples have gone to the laboratories for testing and as soon as the results are back we will be making a statement.

“We should have it probably next week. When the test comes out, we will then need to examine it and interpret.

“It (results) is not something that we can give you overnight,” he said.
