MOTHER’S Day came early for women of Votua Village in Bua on Saturday as their spouses gifted them with a refurbished house as their resource centre.
Members of the Senivadra Women’s Club celebrated the achievement with their spouses.
In opening the centre, Minister for Women Mereseini Vuniwaqa thanked the men and praised them for the gift for the women.
She said such act from the men was an empowering message that anything could be achieved where teamwork prevailed.
Mrs Vuniwaqa said men’s support towards women -based projects was imperative in any situation.
She told villagers of Votua to support the women because they helped in making a difference in society.
Club’s president Jese Watisavou considered themselves blessed.
“The men painted and refurbished the building for the women and we are indeed blessed,” she said.
“They logged timbers from the forest, brought it to the village and repaired our resource centre.
“This building used to be a kindergarten classroom and when it was relocated, the men decided to give it to us as our resource centre, which we will use to sell our handicraft.”
The centre, she said, would also be used for the women’s training program and workshops.
