A PETITION of appeal was filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Christopher Pryde in the case of a man sentenced for rape.

A statement issued today by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) said Mr Pryde will appeal the sentence imposed on a stepfather convicted and sentenced for rape.

According to the statement, the appeal is based on the grounds that the sentence of 14 years was manifestly lenient having regard to the facts and the circumstances of the case.

The 32-year-old man was convicted of three counts of rape and one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm to his 10-year-old step daughter in July 26, 2018.

The petition of appeal was filed yesterday at the Court of Appeal Registry.
